PRABAL GURUNG STEAL

One thing I am always in search of is a good deal. Even when famous designers collaborate with affordable stores, the price point still might not be where you want it. Enter exhibit A: this amazing silky button down by Prabal Gurung for Target was snatched up by yours truly after his collaboration had been in the store for a couple weeks and things were starting to find their way to the clearance section. I scored it for a fraction of the cost and that made the deal much sweeter. Obviously this tactic does not always work, and I was fortunate to find not only the top I wanted on clearance, but the size I needed. Nonetheless, it worked out for me and had it not, I would have just deemed it not meant to be.

So classy, comfortable and fun! Paired with my most favorite brand of faux leather pants, Rock & Republic for Kohl's and Charlotte Russe black platforms. Ugh, love! And of course, the jewelry. Who could forget the JEWELRY! Stella & Dot's Sumervell Necklace is seriously all you need in life. Seriously! It comes in four different versions, but this classic one totally stole my attention when it was first released. OB-sessed!

Thankfully at the last minute I tossed on a faux fur vest. It is starting to get chilly at night these days! Last year I zeroed in on a want need of mine and that was more faux fur vests in a variety of colors. This beauty was one of my selections from Forever 21 and is definitely a staple item that will be with me for years to come. And for the price (under $50) I was able to realistically get more than one. I get so many compliments any time I wear one of my fur vests! I know faux fur can seem a little scary at first for some, but once you wear it a few times and get comfortable with the look you will realize they really are great pieces to have in your closet. Mark my words: you WILL get a compliment ;)

VALUE OF VERSATILITY

So today I was thinking about the many ways I wear certain items of clothing over, and over, and over again. And then I got inspired. Here are some examples of how to take any piece of clothing and make it appropriate for whatever occasion you need it for! And I was able to make this a visual reality with the help of none other than, drum roll please.... Polyvore!

This set includes my beloved shorts from Target that I mentioned before and have accumulated multiple pairs of in all different colors over the past two years. Love! Take them from casual, to flirty, to classy.

The next set includes this fabulous lace dress that I recently ordered from Forever 21 (still waiting on its arrival!). The greatest thing about this dress is not only how beautiful it is, but also how versatile it is! Bad thing is that the day after i ordered it, it disappeared from the site! Must have sold out. But don't fret my lace loving friends because Forever 21 is very good about restocking popular items! Just have to keep your eye out for it.

Last, but certainly not least, a set including one of Target's awesome collaborations. This top is by Prabal Gurung for Target and also happens to be on major sale!

Speaking of Target, I managed to snag these bad boys for $5. Yes, you read that correctly. F-I-V-E dollars. Oh yeah, Oh yeah! I may or may not have bought them in white too.... at five dollars a pair.. c'mon, give me a break, I HAD to get the white ones too! I actually had been on the look out for some boat shoes because other than sandals, I have no flat shoe options. And bam, these cuties popped up and fit the bill as a cute flat shoe option! Zappos recently had a sale on Sperry boat shoes, but even with the sale I couldn't bring myself to pay $80 for them, and so the search continues for a more affordable, yet comparable pair of boat shoes. But until then, I have these.

And these fab flats fit right in with the theme of today's post: versatility. Today I paired them with some velour pants from Victoria's Secret and a simple tee. But they can definitely be paired with shorts and a nice top or even a sundress. Love! It's all about getting the best bang for your buck.

Now on to some fun nail color! I am such a big fan of bright nails! If you are scared of bright colors, your nails are a good place to start incorporating it.

And lastly, on to a new food item. I am super excited to try this out! They are on sale so I decided to get one of each of the three flavors. We shall see!

Time to watch my St. Louis Cardinals with the hubs. Go Cards! If you have been following the blog since day one, them I'm sure you remember how often this pic showed up. Get used to it people, and get used to it for the next few months because these guys like to make the playoffs :)

GRAMMY SUNDAY

Hey Hey! Who's watching the Grammy's?! Let's be honest, I only care about the performances.... and the fashion ;)

Today I made my way to Target to check out the Prabal Gurung collection, and although I thought it was cute and fun, I didn't end up buying anything. The blazer that I was dying over didn't really impress in person. I was hoping it would be made of a satin-like material but it was cotton and just didn't really strike me like it did in the ad. We will see, maybe in a few days I'll go back and check it out again. Did any of you get something from the collection?!

After I left Target I swung by TJ Maxx, not for any particular reason but because I hadn't been in a while. Gosh I love that store! I snagged this super freaking cute cotton top with faux leather shoulders and faux leather pocket. And another item I got a HUGE deal on.. drum roll please.... a Michael Kors open front sweater originally $150 for $29. I die. There were SO MANY MK purses there too that I had to walk away. I can make an impulse buy at $29, but these purses are all still in  the $100+ range and I was not about to do that! Check out my steals!

Dinner tonight was of the salad variety with some shredded turkey. Mmmm. I also found this gem by Bolthouse Farms at my local grocery and decided to buy the mini bottle to see if it was good before I took the plunge and bought the big container. Verdict? pretty darn good! They have several different mixes and flavors, so I am excited to try them out.

And another great find that I stumbled upon at the checkout line was this new flavor of gum. I love how Extra has all these dessert flavors! And all the ones I have had are on point in the flavor department. Crazy how they can do that! This one was a must buy for me because my mom makes the most delicious, "Gooey Butter Cake", and I wanted to see how the gum lived up to it. Obviously, nothing can replace the actual dessert, but this was still really good!

Short and sweet post. Gotta get back to my Grammy watching!

BEHIND EVERY GREAT WOMAN...

Is a great man :)

First and foremost, I have to give the hubs some props. Upon getting home from work yesterday, there was music, wine and food from one of my favorite Italian restaurants awaiting me. And for no reason! Big points, for sure!

Mmmm... bread and dipping oil.... mmmm

The meal portions are very generous! The hubs ordered two meals and split them in half so we each could have some of both. Yes, that pic above is HALF the lasagna meal... impressive, I know! It is all "from-scratch" and de.lic.ious. The pic below is the end of our meal... it is rare that Daniel and I can't finish a meal. Ha! Ask anyone that knows us well ;)

And no romantic meal would be complete without...dessert! We went to our local ice cream joint and went to town on some ice cream. Although I am paying for it today (feel like you could roll me down the street, ha) it was soooo worth it. Remember, 80/20 ;)

Sticking with the Italian theme, I made this yummy spaghetti the other day. Whole wheat noodles, lean beef and organic sauce (with a few secret additions).

Another random eat: Organic honey oats, almond milk, blueberries and strawberries.

Now on to fashion: the other night we went to a service recognition banquet for my work and it was really fun! Anyone who is at their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years... and so on, anniversary of employment at my hospital got to go to the banquet. Fabulous drinks, great dinner and multiple mini desserts. Can't beat that! I decided to rock a black one shoulder peplum dress from Forever 21 and some Stella & Dot arm candy.

Unfortunately, this bracelet has been retired! Sorry!

So sad that I am not in St. Louis this weekend for Mardi Gras celebrations.. boo. Mardi Gras is a big deal there and we have had some good times in the past. All day celebrating and good food. Can't beat it. So to make it feel a little Mardi Gras-ish here, I am making us jambalaya with turkey sausage. MmmMmm

Our basketball team plays tonight so the hubs is pumped to watch the game. Not sure where we are going to watch it at yet, haven't decided! My look: Lauren Conrad jeans, F21 top, Gap sweater and Target boots. Love!

Don't forget that tomorrow is the first day of the Prabal Gurung collection for Target! I am definitely going to check it out!

Have a great Saturday night!

NEW TARGET COLLECTION

So I got a nice little email today from my good friend, Target, and I'm excited! Since their slight  "miss" with the Neiman Marcus collection, I have been super curious to see who would be the next designer to showcase a collection at Target. I LOVE that Target does this, and hopefully after the Neiman Marcus price-point fiasco, things will be a little different. I'm sure this collection will be fabulous!

Anyways, the next designer to grace the racks of "tar jay" (said in my best French accent) is Prabal Gurung. Check out the sneak peak here. Can't wait to see it in person because you never know what you are really getting just by looking at an ad. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, and other times I am left feeling cheated and disappointed. If you watch the video on the link, at the end there is a flowered blazer that I can already tell I'm going to be pinning over... Can't wait to see it in person! :)

That's all I got for tonight. I need to get some beauty sleep!

Tomorrow I'll be sharing my new Stella&Dot swag that just arrived on my doorstep. A pleasant surprise after a long 12+ hours at work today. bLaH!

Good Night!

xoxo MaryBeth
