FRIDAY FOODS....AND FASHION

The hubs' bday is this weekend and it also conveniently happens to be the weekend for all things St. Patrick's Day! So, on the agenda is a visit from my parents (YAY!), corned beef & cabbage and last, but certainly not least, my yearly German Chocolate Cake from scratch. The hubs loves GCC so I make it for his birthday.

Mmm....

And this is not your, "..substitute this for that because it is healthier..." cake. Ohhh no. This is the, "you want me to add HOW many sticks of butter", cake. And it is damn good. Especially with some ice cream on the side. Recipe is here.

But alas, there is still hope for some healthy knowledge on today's bog post. My Dad actually found this recipe and gave it to me to try. First batch is in the oven as we speak.

All the dry ingredients

Just prior to being tossed in the oven... we will see how it turns out!

And time for the fashion!

Comfy tee with faux leather details

Black skinny jeans and rider boots

Topped off with this extremely comfy and warm Michael Kors cardigan I snagged a while back from TJ Maxx. They ALWAYS have Michael Kors products, never fails. From purses to dresses to shoes... its all there... all the time.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! We celebrated the hubs' bday weekend with a night out on Friday and dinner made by muah on Saturday with the in-laws. It was fab! Here's my weekend in pics! Now if only we could have made it to Paddy's Pub.. (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia reference.. anyone? anyone? great show)

Breakfast for the birthday boy on Friday morning was eggs with feta, milk, spinach and pepper paired with some coffee and toast with jam.

While he went to a half day at work, I prepared the German Chocolate Cake for his birthday dinner that we were having at the house Saturday. Mmmm.....

The frosting....

Finished product!

That night we went out to dinner at this very nice and super yummy Italian restaurant, Vincenzo's. It.was.good. Here is my look from the night. The fab bun maker, Cover Girl lips, Forever 21 sequined blazer, Rock & Republic for Kohl's top and faux leather pants and black heels by Candie's for Kohl's. Love!

Birthday boy!

The hubs was surprised by his assistant manager who made him birthday cupcakes and brought them to work for him. How sweet! And she did a great job. I would know because I had two one of them later that night...

Now on to the birthday meal on Saturday. Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, string beans and some swirled rye/pumpernickel bread. My mom gave me the deets on her recipes and I have to give myself a big pat on the back because it all turned out just like hers, or at least close to it!

Seasoned.

Ten hours of cooking in my new 16 quart electric roaster that I snagged at Target for a whopping $17, no joke! See, I'm the queen of steals for not only fashion but home good too! ha

Bam.

Next up is the cabbage. Ended up only using two of them. My mom was right, cabbage goes a long way!

Ready to be steamed on the stove top in some of the liquid from the electric roaster

Bam.

String Beans. Mmm.... onion, french cut green beans, sugar and salt. To die.

Yes, that yellow liquid at the bottom is butter... four sticks to be exact. Ha! Win some, lose some. Also tossed with some parsley.

And finally, the finished product!

Since we were at my house I didn't want to get super glammed up but still be cute. And I also had to be festive and rock some green! TJ Maxx cardigan and top, Forever 21 belt that I removed from one of my dresses and added here, Lauren Conrad for Kohl's skinny jeans and some Candie's for Kohl's leopard heels. Love!

Stella & Dot love! The colorful Contessa Jade is retired, sorry folks! But the Avalon Crescent Necklace is brand spankin new!

Another S&D piece that is new from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection is the Christina Link Bracelet. Not only is it a bracelet, but it also doubles as an extender for your necklaces. And when you pair it as an extender with an up do, you have a little bling bling for the back of your neck. Genius!! Stella & Dot, you've done it again!

And finally a little eyeshadow sassiness. Love.

Hope you had a fab St. Patrick's Day and a relaxing Sunday.

xoxo MaryBeth

BETTER LATE THEN NEVER

Happy almost hump day! Busy weekend for me with my sister, Holly, and one of her friends, Christian (and longtime family friend) in town. Christian has known Holly longer than I have! haha We relaxed, shopped, ate, drank and enjoyed a St. Patrick's Day parade. Not too shabby! Between that and working three 12's in a row (tomorrow is my last of the three) I haven't got much blogging in.

Thursday night when they got in town we had grilled steak and chicken, grilled potatoes with green and red pepper and some asparagus. YUM! Wine was a must, of course. We had a fabulous night-in and just chatted and caught up! Here's my look: Faux leather top and skinny jeans from TJ Maxx and heels from Charlotte Russe. Love.

So mad at myself for not getting a pic of our delicious meal! It was soooo goooood!! Chef Hubs did a great grillin' job. The cigs are not mine and my fabulous guests need to kick the habit!!  ;)  Not here to preach so moving on!

We spent Friday shopping and relaxing on the couch. I am soo excited about my purchases from our shopping spree. I'll share it all later, but I will give you a hint: It involves Derby... (Kentucky Derby, that is). That night we went to an awesome microbrewery here and since my sister didn't know what to get she did what any smart girl would do- get a beer flight, duh! We got a kick out of the sweet tray that they came on! Check it out:

We had these to start off our Saturday morning before the parade. YUM! Coffee with Bailey's, Bloody Mary and Whiskey with Soda. Very random spread of drinks but we were all craving something different. After these we moved on to the green beer!

You can't really tell it here, but our tongues were definitely green!

This weekend we are celebrating the hubs' birthday and I can't wait to share the delicious meal that I am preparing on Saturday when we celebrate. Friday just the two of us are going out to dinner to celebrate his actual b-day, but Saturday we are having family over for from scratch German Chocolate Cake and Corned Beef, Cabbage and Potatoes. Can't wait to share it all with you!

And last but not least, some Polyvore love!
